Advancing Aerial Insight with the Q2 Issue of IFT Quarterly Magazine

  • Apr 23, 2025
  • 2 min read

The second issue of IFT Quarterly Magazine continues our mission to highlight innovation in aerial data collection and American-made engineering. From water quality mapping to industrial LiDAR applications, this issue focuses on how precision, compliance, and performance are driving real-world impact.

What’s Inside

Mapping Water Quality from Above

Researchers in southern Brazil used the IF1200 to monitor aquatic ecosystems in real time, transforming how environmental data is captured. Equipped with hyperspectral sensors and advanced processing software, the UAV collected high-accuracy data on turbidity, sediment transport, and organic matter — outperforming traditional satellite and manual sampling methods. The study, led by Felipe Lobo and his team, showcases how UAVs are redefining environmental research and resource management.

Blue vs. Green: Navigating Certifications

This in-depth article explains the evolution from the DoD’s Blue UAS program to AUVSI’s Green UAS certification pathway. It breaks down what each means for manufacturers and end users and clarifies how Inspired Flight continues to deliver NDAA-compliant, secure platforms for both defense and commercial sectors.

Profile: Nick Winsick

Meet Nick Winsick, Director of Technology at Inspired Flight. From his early days as an Aviation Electronics Technician in the U.S. Navy to leading engineering initiatives at IFT, Nick shares insights on design philosophy, testing standards, and how the team maintains reliability while continuing to innovate.

LiDAR Mapping Along the Willamette River

Geospatial firm Redefined Horizons deployed the IF1200A with a Phoenix miniRANGER-3 LiDAR to survey an 80-acre industrial site in Portland, Oregon. The project produced high-density point clouds, ortho imagery, and 3D models in record time, proving how UAV-based LiDAR delivers superior efficiency and accuracy compared to ground-based methods.

Support & Training Q&A

This recurring section covers firmware updates, Inspired Care tiers, and training availability nationwide, giving operators practical tips for maintaining readiness and maximizing uptime.
