Executive Orders Set the Stage for U.S. Drone Manufacturing

What It Means for Inspired Flight and the Future of American UAS

On June 6, 2025, President Donald Trump signed two major executive orders aimed at revitalizing the American drone industry. These orders, “Unleashing American Drone Dominance” and “Restoring American Airspace Sovereignty”, signal a sweeping commitment to accelerating U.S. leadership in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), with direct implications for drone manufacturers like Inspired Flight Technologies (IFT).

Accelerating U.S. Innovation

The executive actions are designed to strengthen the domestic supply chain, streamline FAA regulations, and expand operational capabilities through initiatives like:

These orders not only put pressure on the FAA to deliver long-awaited rulemaking but also create tangible incentives for end users and integrators to choose American-made systems.

A Defining Moment for Inspired Flight

For IFT, a California-based manufacturer of NDAA-compliant UAS platforms, the implications are clear: this is a turning point.

“We applaud these executive orders, which underscore the importance of creating a robust domestic drone industry. Strengthening America’s capacity to develop and manufacture drone systems is conserving resources, creating jobs and saving lives. This is why Inspired Flight exists and we look forward to advancing the mission.” - Rick Stollmeyer, CEO

IFT’s aircraft, including the IF800 Tomcat and IF1200 heavy-lift platform, are already deployed across federal, public safety, and utility operations. The company’s commitment to field-ready hardware and responsive support has made it a preferred choice for teams operating in high-stakes environments.

"BVLOS is the single most powerful catalyst for growth in the U.S. drone industry. Unlocking BVLOS in public safety, utilities, and delivery enables long-range, high-impact missions that drive demand, cut costs, and make advanced drone operations scalable. This capability will ignite technology and manufacturing expansion across the entire UAS ecosystem." - Nick Winsick, VP of Technology

BVLOS the key growth driver in the U.S. market. Drones operating BVLOS in public safety, utilities, and delivery will unlock technology and manufacturing growth opportunities throughout our U.S drone industry.

Supporting U.S. Leadership Abroad

In addition to domestic benefits, the executive orders direct the Department of Commerce to revise export controls, making it easier for American drone companies to compete globally. With an increasing number of allied nations seeking secure alternatives to Chinese-manufactured systems, the timing is critical.

The Federal Government’s emphasis on U.S-produced drone technology places pressure on major commercial drone operators to follow suit, aligning with the needs of the nation’s largest contractor of drone services, driving increased demand for IFT’s capabilities.” - Adam Bilmes, Head of Business

What’s Next?

Inspired Flight is aligning internal efforts to leverage the opportunities created by these executive orders fully. That includes deepening relationships with federal agencies, investing further in BVLOS capabilities, and expanding training and service infrastructure in strategic regions.
